Insulation for the 21st century
We're making life more affordable, comfortable and safe through thermal energy management
Liatris is delivering the cleanest and fastest energy savings for businesses and consumers
by mass producing high performance insulation that is easy-to-install,
environmentally friendly, non-flammable, and non-toxic.

Our Difference
We’re ushering in a new generation of insulation
Our products are designed to fulfill an increasingly critical need for fire resistance in buildings while not sacrificing any of the key strengths of today’s insulation products.
It’s the best of both worlds
Our goal is to combine all the key benefits of existing technologies while pushing new technical limits. We’re focused on insulation board that is lightweight and easy to handle, similar to EPS and XPS, while preserving the non-flammability performance of mineral wool.

Management
Frank Yang
Co-founder & CEO
Frank is the co-founder and President / CEO of Liatris. He is also a Partner at ADL Ventures, a leading innovation / venture consulting firm in buildings and energy. Frank has 15+ years’ experience bringing advanced materials innovations to market, including 12 in the energy sector. Prior to founding Liatris, Frank was co-founder and VP of Business Development & Marketing for Stion where he ran all commercial operations for a vertically integrated US solar panel manufacturer / project developer. Frank raised over $400M in funding from leading corporate and VC investors, and sold out production capacity from one of the largest US-based factories. Previously, Frank worked at Pixtronix (sold to Qualcomm in 2011 for $150MM), Nantero (government business unit sold to Lockheed Martin in 2008), ISTN and Lehman Brothers. Frank received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from Amherst College.

Dr. Arthur J. Yang
Co-founder & CTO
Dr. Arthur J. Yang is a leading expert in thermal insulation materials. Dr. Yang is also the President and CEO of Industrial Science & Technology Network, Inc. (ISTN), a nanomaterials R&D firm with a 20+ year track record of developing platform technologies with corporate and government funding, and commercializing via licensing. At ISTN, Dr. Yang has completed over $20M in federal and state funded research projects for the DOE, NIST and the NIH. Previously, he was the Head of Insulation Research for Armstrong Insulation, which was spun out into Armacell, a leading private-equity backed industrial foams and flexible insulation manufacturer with 25 production plants in 17 countries. At Armstrong, he won the first major federal grant for “super-insulation” (NIST ATP - $4.5M, 1992). Dr. Yang also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Maryland – College Park, and was previously a Guest Scientist at NIST.

Technology
Insulation holds the key to better buildings
The ability to make high-performance, industrially engineered insulation material is dictated by how well you can make low-density materials consisting almost entirely of air bubbles which block the flow of heat.
The first insulation materials were largely derived from naturally occurring materials like asbestos, cork, cotton and wool. The primary incumbent options we have today - fiberglass, mineral wool and foam insulation - resulted from industrial development efforts in the 1950’s to replace asbestos.
Today, an increasing focus on achieving building resiliency and energy efficiency in an economic and scalable manner creates a new challenge where insulation technology must rise to the occasion and make a major impact.
Liatris is making this vision a reality.
Liatris insulation helps scale up advanced building construction to be easier and faster to produce as well as more affordable for owners. At the same time, this next generation insulation offers higher levels of comfort, quality and safety occupants. We are developing a proprietary nanocomposite using readily available inorganic materials (eliminating highly flammable organic plastics), as well as controlling the properties of our materials at a much smaller scale – micro and nano. The result: insulation that has higher performance, is non-flammable and better for the environment.
Insulation, reinvented.
Features for the modern era
Resilient
Our composites are focused on complete non-flammability, fulfilling an increasingly critical need for fire-resistant building structures. Closed-cell & waterproof.
Low-Carbon
Our composites significantly reduce petroleum-based polymers content, and require less energy intensive production methods.
Easy to Install
Lightweight board is well-suited for both easy single-person installation as well as automated assembly in off-site construction facilities. Dust & fiber free.
Everyday Affordable
Produced using a custom blend of readily available commodity materials and high-throughput, industry standard manufacturing processes. Drop-in replacement for EPS/XPS.
Materials for a sustainable future
Cellulose
Cellulose is an important structural component of the primary cell wall of green plants. It is the most abundant organic polymer on Earth and can be engineered for superior fire resistance.
Polymer
Liatris utilizes newly developed polymers with higher temperature tolerance and lower flammability than traditional insulation materials like EPS and XPS.
Clay
Clay is a natural soil that that can be processed with very small particle sizes. Liatris has patented processes which enable these particles to be foamed into high-performance insulation materials.
